Baltimore City Foundation Welcomes HyeSook Chung as new President

The Baltimore City Foundation announced today its newly appointed President, HyeSook Chung, an experienced strategic manager and child advocate. Ms. Chung will lead the Foundation and focus on leveraging innovative public-private partnerships to enrich the lives of Baltimoreans. The priority areas will include: (1) increasing opportunities for youth employment, (2) strengthening neighborhoods assets including recreation and parks and (3) expanding wellness services for those battling addictions and mental health.

“Public-private partnerships have the power to quickly transform the way we tackle some of our most challenging problems, by combining the flexibility of private funding with the scale of government. There is tremendous potential to create and strengthen program models as we invest in our neighborhoods,” said Henry Raymond, interim President and Chief Financial Officer for the City of Baltimore. “HyeSook has a proven track record of strategic management that achieves results,” said Raymond. "Her leadership will amplify our work to support interest of the Baltimore and its residents.”

Chung served as a Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services for Mayor Muriel Bowser. While serving as Deputy Mayor, Chung oversaw many economic development initiatives such as the expansion of Medicaid, TANF, and CHIP. Prior to her appointment, Chung served as the executive director of DC Action for Children, a child advocacy organization working to bring high impact outcomes by analyzing and visualizing data in service to children. Ms. Chung has worked to improve the lives of children through direct service, program management, philanthropy and advocacy for the past 21 years. Chung has served on The Annie E. Casey's KIDS COUNT National Steering Committee. In addition to having expertise on issues that affect children and families, she is a data and technology enthusiast whose innovative vision for data work for high-impact social outcomes has been highlighted at THE IMB Insight Data Conference, the list of Rockefeller Foundation’s Top 100 Innovative NGO’s and SXSW Education. She received a Master of Social Work from Boston University with a concentration in nonprofit management.

Ms. Chung is excited to guide the Foundation through its restructuring and help build the Foundation into an accountable, robust, and dynamic organization.
